What is Life Like at a Navodaya Vidyalaya?
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are a system of fully residential, co-educational schools established by the Government of India. They are run by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education.
The primary objective of JNVs is to identify and nurture talented children from rural areas by providing them with quality education comparable to the best residential schools in the country — completely free of cost. Students receive free boarding, lodging, uniforms, textbooks, and stationery.
Admission to Class VI is through the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST), which tests Mental Ability, Arithmetic, and Language. It is conducted annually by NVS and is one of the most competitive school-level entrance exams in India.
